CIPR- Going it alone – successfully freelancing in PR – 10 Oct
Join CIPR North East for an evening all about the pros and cons of working for yourself. Whether you’re a freelancer, an independent consultant, or perhaps even considering going-it-alone, the guest speakers for the evening will give you a no-holds-barred insight into the realities of being your own boss.
About the Event:
From the pleasure of working for yourself to the pitfalls of fulfilling a multitude of roles all rolled into one, Laura Sutherland will share with you the hints, tips and tricks she’s learned along the way of being a successful independent practitioner based in Scotland while working with clients across the UK and beyond. A Chartered PR practitioner and a Fellow of the CIPR, Laura has 16 years’ experience in public relations, events and communications working across a variety of sectors. From luxury automotive brands and global manufacturing to high street fashion, design and culture, Laura’s exciting career has enabled her to widen her skills and experience with a particular emphasis on strategy.
Then, hear from Raman Sehgal, Founder and Managing Director of ramarketing – an award-winning PR, digital and design agency working with contract service companies in the outsourcing space across the UK, US and Europe.
Raman launched ramarketing in 2009 and grew his business in the early days using freelancers to scale up resources to meet his client demand. During the event Raman will help you to see things from both sides, drawing on his experience of working with freelancers, covering everything from what he looks for when commissioning someone to work with his business, to what outcomes he expects when you become part of the team. It’s about helping you to get in-the-know and be fully prepared for what to expect when working with agencies, as well as being able to make yourself more attractive to them, in turn picking up more work.
